Phnom Penh: Minister of Labour and Vocational Training, Mr. Heng Sour, stated that the National Conference on “Labour Economy 2024” has provided crucial inputs to ensure that Cambodia maintains favorable labour conditions following its graduation from the Least Developed Countries (LDC) category in 2029.
Speaking at the National Conference on Labour Economy 2024โheld on December 11, 2024, under the theme “Economic and Labour Recovery and the Journey Toward Graduation from the Least Developed Countries Category”โMr. Heng Sour noted that the Royal Government of Cambodia is currently collaborating with relevant partners and all ministries and institutions to develop a joint action plan. This initiative aims to ensure that by 2029, when Cambodia graduates from the LDC status, the country will have sound labour conditions in place.

According to Mr. Heng Sour, the national-level conference will provide crucial inputs to support Cambodiaโs graduation from the group of Least Developed Countries (LDCs) and foster further progress. It will bring together experts in the fields of labor, social security, and vocational training from various institutions to share perspectives and offer recommendations aimed at boosting the momentum of Cambodiaโs labor market following its LDC graduation. Furthermore, the conference will facilitate the exchange of insights and best practices regarding Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) among private sector representatives, policymakers, and researchers. It will also encourage discussions and the provision of strategic inputs to ensure that Cambodiaโs workforce is equipped to meet the demands of the digital age.

The Royal Government of Cambodia has set 2029 as the year for Cambodia to graduate from the group of Least Developed Countries (LDCs). At the same time, this transition presents an opportunity to diversify industries in collaboration with relevant domestic and international partners, while also serving as a potential draw for other industries to consider establishing operations in Cambodia.
